JPMorgan Chase and Urban Institute Release Upstate NY Ecosystem Report, Host Launch NY and CenterState CEO Panel on Tech Hubs

JPMorgan Chase and the Urban Institute have partnered to release an in-depth report on the entrepreneurial ecosystem across Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse. This report, made possible through JPMorgan Chase funding, which has also been supported Launch NY’s Founders Go Big program and the region’s CDFI, Capital Connect NY, was unveiled during a webinar on July 29th.

Webinar Highlights

The webinar featured a panel discussion titled “Linking Industrial Policy Investments and Small Business Ecosystems: A Look at Western New York,” which included key regional leaders. Panelists included Marnie LaVigne, President & CEO of Launch NY, and Dominic Robinson, the Senior Vice President of Inclusive Growth from CenterState Corporation for Economic Opportunity. The session was moderated by Simeon Banister, Chief Executive Officer of the Rochester Area Community Foundation.

Report Findings

Brett Theodos, Senior Fellow and Director of the Community Economic Development Hub at the Urban Institute, presented the findings of the report, which analyzed the strengths and challenges within the entrepreneurial ecosystems of Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse. The report also explored the potential for growth in these cities, supported by substantial federal investments through the Build Back Better initiative, NSF Engines, and Tech Hub initiatives.

Regional Growth and Integration

The discussion emphasized the importance of integrating small business efforts with broader regional growth strategies, especially in light of significant federal investments. Panelists, including Marnie LaVigne, explored how these investments can be leveraged to foster inclusive economic growth across Upstate New York.
