Launch NY Invests in Bridge Green Upcycle to Power Clean Energy Innovation in Upstate New York
Launch NY has announced a new investment in Bridge Green Upcycle, a cleantech startup headquartered in Binghamton, New York, that’s rethinking the future of battery recycling. This marks the 105th company added to Launch NY’s growing portfolio and the 17th investment made through its Limited Partner Fund II, which remains open to new investors until April 30, 2025.
Bridge Green Upcycle, founded by Binghamton University graduate Balki Iyer, is on a mission to close the loop on battery production. The company developed a proprietary, mining-free method for recovering valuable materials from end-of-life and scrap batteries. These recovered components are then repurposed for use across several industries, including battery manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and industrial paints. This approach reduces waste, avoids environmentally damaging mining practices, and contributes to a more sustainable energy ecosystem.
The investment is part of a broader public-private partnership supported by Empire State Development’s NY Ventures Community and Regional Partner Fund. A portion of the $52 million awarded to Launch NY through the federal State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) is helping to power high-growth startups like Bridge Green Upcycle. Launch NY made this investment using capital from both its nonprofit Seed Fund and its for-profit LP Fund II, reinforcing its role as a key player in Upstate New York’s cleantech development.
Beyond capital, Launch NY is deeply embedded in the region’s energy innovation ecosystem. It is a core partner of the NSF Engines: Upstate New York Energy Storage Engine, a nationwide initiative led by Binghamton University to drive battery R&D and commercialization. Bridge Green Upcycle also benefits from additional support through its involvement with the Koffman Southern Tier Incubator and Launch NY’s Emerging Cleantech Opportunity (ECO) Incubator. The company has received technical guidance and talent pipeline support via New Energy New York (NENY), including funding for student internships through the NENY Student Startup Experience.
Launch NY continues to position itself as one of the most active early-stage funders in the region, especially within clean energy and high-impact tech. With the final close of LP Fund II quickly approaching, investors have a unique opportunity to get involved in a fund that directly fuels innovative startups shaping the future of sustainable industries.
